The Story of Ice Cream
Where does ice cream actually come from?
It depends who, and where, you ask.
One
of the most popular stories has it that ice cream was invented by the
ancient Romans. Legend has it that the Emperor Nero sent his servants
to Etna volcano to fetch snow.
The servants had to hurry back so that the ice didn't melt and the Emperor could enjoy it as a topping on his fruit.
Another
story has it that an ingenious Italian chemist named Boutalenti was
asked in 1565 by the Vatican to prepare an untraditional but fantastic
dinner for some visiting Spanish dignitaries.
Boutalenti worked
on the project for months on end in his laboratory and the result was
the ”artificial” ice cream that we know today as a Mr Whippy.
As
mentioned above, there are any number of other stories of the origins
of ice cream. Which ones are true is something we will probably never
know.
