Our Story
The first Paradis store was opened by Thor Thorøe in Nørregade, Århus, Denmark in 2000.
Thor hit on the idea of opening his own ice-cream store while working in a gelateria in Rome.
He
wanted to produce a Danish version of the ice cream he'd seen made in
Rome, by, amongst other things, minimizing the amount of fat used and
only using fresh and natural ingredients.
Furthermore, Thor wanted his ice-cream to be as fresh as possible – which meant making fresh ice-cream on a daily basis.
In
2003, Thor Thorøe entered into partnership with Jørgen Bjerre and
together they opened Copenhagen's first Paradis store on Sankt Hans
Torv in Nørrebro. The new store proved so successful that next year
Thor and Jørgen were able to open a further Paradis Store – this time
in Frederiksberg.
It was clear that there was room for further
expansion, and the first Paradis franchise opened on Amager in 2005.
Since then, we have opened new stores every year, and we now have 26
Danish outlets.
Our first foreign venture, a Ugandan Paradis
store, will be opening soon. You can read more about in the news
section of this site.
